Why Being an Independent Consultant for Usborne Books & More is the Ultimate Side Hustle for Moms

Looking for something to do on the side, but can’t find anything that allows for a flexible enough schedule?? I chose to join Usborne Books & More after my very first party. I had worked for one of the major book publishers in New York City for ten years prior to having my children, and after becoming a stay-at-home-mom, I felt like something was missing. I longed to feel like I was conducting myself professionally again, instead of just managing library class schedules, playdates and naps for my toddler and baby. Don’t get me wrong: being a mom is the most important and rewarding work, but I was in a rut and felt like I needed something else for me, that made me feel like I was something other than “just a mom”.

Then BAM, the pandemic hit, and my family not only needed more income, but I needed a sanity saver, something just for me to work on and focus on while being stuck in the house…a side hobby that would also earn extra money. Enter: UBAM! I have finally found a job that I truly enjoy. I go down to my small makeshift basement office during naps and after bedtime and I genuinely don’t want to leave. I get to meet other wonderful moms who are also passionate about literacy and about finding amazing books for the children in their lives. I get to work with other consultants and team leaders who love books just as much as I do! I get to interact with party guests, hosts and customers who count on me for recommendations and information! I am accountable only to myself. There is no boss to answer to, no added stress of quotas or minimums, and yet I work as hard as I can because it is directly tied to my financial success. And somehow, perhaps I am making just a small impact on the abysmal literacy stats in this country! Maybe because of my recommendation in a Facebook party, some children are going to get a book they otherwise may not have been given!
